I started Strength & Conditioning in 2012 with my wife, Dana. We used what very little equipment we had at our house to attempt to do daily WOD’s and Hero WOD’s. We modified (a lot) in order to use what was available around our house and what we were capable of doing. We used our boys’ swing set for a pull-up bar, an ottoman for box jumps, and ran laps around our house and neighborhood. We were THAT family in the neighborhood. This progressed into our own garage gym at home with most of the items commonly seen at Strength & Conditioning boxes, including our very own rig in the front yard! Growing up, I played multiple sports, had a great strength and conditioning coach, and until 6 years ago, had been active in gyms and programming of various types. None of them provided me with the coaching of the fundamentals of functional movement, constantly varied, and at high intensity. They also did not provide an understanding and opportunity to learn Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics, nor did they have an atmosphere where individuals with multiple levels of fitness would engage daily, workout together without headphones, yes without headphones, and have comradery and healthy competition. This gave me the sense of sport back that I had missed for so many years, and yielded new goals that I never thought I would set out to do, i.e. handstand walking, overhead squatting, snatching, and performing muscle ups on gymnastic rings. My goal is to provide what I have learned to help others safely achieve their goals for wellness and fitness both short term and long term, through coaching, engagement, and personally knowing every athlete that comes to Full Throttle Fitness.
